SEDER: Act 4
- There is the drinking of a third cup of wine.
- Symbolizing the theme of redemption, the Prophet
Elijah is invited to enter by opening the door of
the house. The Cup of Elijah, which has been placed
upon the table earlier is also a gesture of anticipation.
- After the Elijah ceremony the selection of Psalms,
known collectively as the Hallel service is recited.
Hallel is recited traditionally on holidays and on
the New Month but not during the evening.
- The Hallel is followed by other selections of joyous
songs. One of the best known songs is "Chad Gadya,"
a folk song on one level and an allegory of the Jewish
people on the other.
- The seder is concluded with the drinking of the
Fourth Cup of Wine. (Please do not attempt to drive
home after the Fourth Cup.)
