Israel's Memorial Day, Yom HaZikaron, takes place on the 4th of the Jewish month Iyar, the day before Israel's Independence Day. This year, observance of Yom HaZikaron will begin at sundown on May 6, 2008. It commemorates and pays tribute to the soldiers who died fighting for Israel's independence and its subsequent wars and battles. It also functions as a remembrance for victims of all attacks against the Jewish and Israeli people, including those victims of recent terrorism. On Yom HaZikaron, Jews around the world think about and pay respect to Israel's fallen heroes.
