| In recent years
many observers of the growing intermarriage trend
have feared that it will result in the dissolution
of Jewish communal life due to the inevitable assimilation
of intermarrying Jews into the wider society. History
is yet to render its verdict about how interfaith
marriage will have shaped the long-term viability
of American Jewry. But, the programs here are a
testimonial to the adaptive genius of Jewry in responding
to the ever changing circumstances that define the
terms of its continuity.
Each of these programs represents some effort,
be it on the part of a synagogue, a Jewish community
center or family service agency, to extend a welcoming
hand to interfaith families, encouraging their
involvement and identification with the Jewish
heritage.
