Who's Who in Outreach : Lynne Wolfe
On the occasion of the Bar Mitzvah of a 'graduated'' PATHWAYS
student, the non-Jewish father came up to the bima and
said to his son and the congregation, "Although you have
certainly earned the right to be on the bima today, your
journey has not ended. You must continue to learn more
about your religion and be an active member of the synagogue
and the Jewish community." This father represent to me
the righteous of our generation today because he is handing
over to the Jewish peoople his son a silver platter.
A Jewish mother said, "PATHWAYS was the first step
in reawakening my faith and gave me the strength to
bring my children up Jewish." This reaffirms what I
do as Director of PATHWAYS. Bringing back the interfaith
family has become my quest. Outreach is not a job, it
is a mitzvah, a joy, a mission.
PATHWAYS is the corner stone of my outreach efforts.
It is an enormous and powerful task to bring back a
family and for them to opt for Judaism. For each family's
journey, if conversion comes, it surely comes with conviction
and joy.
Facilitating support/discussion groups, planning symposia
and participating in national dialogue, JOI, the Federations,
the UAHC, and other Jewish communcal organizations help
to expand my outreach efforts. Seven years ago, UJF
of MetroWest, NY responded to a local demographic study.
Their act of creating the position I has made a difference.
