Why is interfaith marriage such a difficult issue for
many Jews?
The number of Jews in the world is relatively small compared
to other religions and cultures. There are only about
thirteen million Jews worldwide, which is less than one
quarter of one percent of the world's population. About
six million Jews live in the United States, with another
five million in Israel and the rest elsewhere. Jewish
communities are generally tight knit, and, because of
the history of persecution,
can be very sensitive to the influence of outside religions. |
